But if you're just starting out, this section provides a short but
powerful list of resources to help you get started. With a wide variety
of topics to pique your interest, including coding, pixel art,
animation, and sprite creation, you can't go wrong with the top

An easy-to-use, in your browser (or downloadable) program for making music. Over 100 instruments & is totally free.

- Is free, but to do so you must continue the free trial indefinitely.
Blender
A great free 3D modeling software for any project. Includes many advanced tools, the ability to rig and animate, and lots of tutorials for 3D modeling on their website.

(is not really free, but it is possible to get the source code of aseprite (since the aseprite devs are allowing it) and not have to buy it (not recommended)

Inform7 is a free program that allows you to create works of interactive fiction (IF), also known as choose-your-own adventure games, but with so many other helpful, extensive, and easy-to-learn features. It also has its own, english-based coding language that you type with regular-sounding sentences.
Twinery is similar to Inform 7 in that it also enables creation of works of interactive fiction. However, it does not involve much coding and instead has a simpler, user-friendly interface. You are also able to easily add css (coding language) to your game to make it look better!
